JOSH O’Connor scored a hat-trick as Alcester RFC claimed a 31-15 bonus point victory against Earlsdon in their first home game of the season.

O’Connor ran in a hat-trick of tries while Jack Green touched down twice to secure a comfortable victory at Birmingham Road.

The result means Alcester sit fourth in the Counties 1 Midlands West (South) table.

Earlsdon took the lead through a penalty before Green scored the game’s first try from Mark Burrell’s excellent offload as Ed Gough kicked the conversion.

And O’Connor then powered over the line for two tries before the break to hand Alcester a 14-point lead at the interval.

Alcester extended their advantage in the second half as Green grabbed his second try of the game with a strong run from inside his own half, holding off a number of defenders on his way to score under the posts.

And O’Connor eventually completed his hat-trick as the half wore on, with Gough converting, before Earlsdon scored two late consolation tries.

Alcester are next in action away at Leamington on Saturday, September 23 with kick-off at 3pm at Moorefields.

The club’s second XV suffered a 51-19 defeat away at Daventry as the home side scored the game’s opening try.

However, Alcester responded when Luke Spencer dotted down under the posts and converted his own score after some pressure forced a mistake from Daventry.

A penalty put Daventry back into the lead before handling errors and soft tackles from Alcester allowed the hosts to take a two-try advantage into the second half.

Daventry continued to add to their total in the second period before scrum half Harry Roderick and Sidney Tunstall crossed for Alcester, the latter scoring a superb individual try in the corner.

Alcester’s second XV host local rivals Stratford at Kings Coughton this weekend.
