A WASTE reduction scheme has rewarded top-performing residents with a £650 donation to support a local hospice.

Stratford district residents using the Slim Your Bin programme chose to donate £650 to The Shakespeare Hospice after winning the community competition.

The scheme developed between programme supplier Jump and Warwickshire County Council (WCC) – rewards participants for reducing their waste and increasing recycling with prizes each month and a charity donation every year.

The donation made to the Shottery hospice will help fund free care for people with life-limiting illnesses and their families.

In 2021, Slim Your Bin participants recorded over 23,000 positive environmental actions including pledging to reduce single-use plastic, buying second hand or taking part in a litter pick.

In total, £3,250 has been donated to charities across Warwickshire since Slim Your Bin began.

Hospice fund-raiser Bridget Richards said: “We are extremely grateful to Slim Your Bin and the residents of Stratford who made this donation possible. We rely heavily on donations such as these to continue delivering support to our patients and families at the hospice.”

WCC environment spokeswoman Heather Timms said: “It’s great to see so many residents in Warwickshire getting involved with the Slim Your Bin programme and more importantly helping to reduce waste in the county. Being able to support local charities alongside this is a win-win for us and our community.”
