Compassionate Stratford couple thank community for shoebox gifts

Stratford Editorial 4th Dec, 2021   0

A KIND-hearted couple from Stratford have thanked the community for supporting their Christmas shoebox drive.

Just under 600 shoeboxes were collected after Malcolm and Anne McCulloch called on the community to donate small gifts and essentials to be sent to poverty-stricken families in Romania.

Malcolm said: “It was great to receive shoeboxes from many local groups – including schools, churches, WI, Slimming World groups, Scouts, Brownies, Malcolm’s workplace NFU Mutual and Alveston Leys Care Home – and many individuals.

“All donations received will help each family in Romania who receive a shoebox to feel loved and valued this Christmas.”

One of the collection team is already working in Romania to help distribute the boxes.

The husband and wife duo have distributed more than 2,000 shoeboxes full of gifts for the last seven years and travelled twice to help charities based in the Eastern Europe country hand-out the boxes.

This is the eighth year the pair – who are members of Stratford Baptist Church – are working alongside charity Amen trust, which distributes the shoeboxes after the pandemic meant last year’s collection was restricted.
