THE BUSTLING streets of Stratford town centre are merry and bright once again.
Hundreds gathered to enjoy the much-awaited Christmas light switch-on event, cancelled last year due to Covid.
Over 200 motifs and strings of fairy lights, courtesy of The Stratford Lights Company, will illuminate the town centre until January 6.
And The Shakespeare Hospice Tree of Light once again serves as the dazzling centrepiece on the Bridge Street roundabout – with each light sponsored in memory of someone’s loved one.
The countdown event precedes the popular Victorian Christmas Market which, for the first time, will take place for four days from Thursday 9 December to Sunday.
Some 300 stalls from local makers, producers and traders will offer up a variety of gifts and crafts, street food and tipples.
And entertainment will be provided from a plethora of street and staged entertainment.
Stratford District Council’s tourism spokesman Matt Jennings said: “It’s such a popular event and has something for all the family to enjoy – the whole town is going to be a hive of activity and we are looking forward to welcoming everyone over the four days. It’s a lovely way to celebrate the season and get into the festive spirit.”
