Climate change campaigners offered sanctuary during COP26 pilgrimage

PILGRIMS on a journey to raise awareness of climate change were offered sanctuary in a Harbury church.

Young Christian Climate Network (YCCN) were welcomed at All Saints Church as the group reached its halfway point.

The members started their walk from the G7 Summit in Cornwall – a forum where countries come together to discuss global economic stability – in June, and are heading to Glasgow for the climate change conference – COP26 – in October.

The walk is a relay with different people joining the group as it progresses, and local churches along the way are assisting with hospitality, from lunch to overnight accommodation.

The YCCN website states: “Our brothers and sisters in churches around the world are losing their livelihoods and homes, and we stand with them.

“Climate-vulnerable countries cannot access finance for adaptation and climate-induced loss and damages without incurring further debt.

“COP26 is the time to change this. We must hold our government accountable to delivering and exceeding the promised $100bn a year in climate finance.”
