THOUSANDS of pounds have been raised to support a Stratford-based theatre company forced to close in the face of coronavirus.
Tread the Boards Theatre Company – founded by local couple John-Robert Partridge and Catherine Prout over a decade ago – launched a fund-raiser after it was forced to postpone its current season of performances to avoid the potential spread of the virus.
And since Wednesday, more than £3,400 has been raised of the company’s £10,000 target.
The couple said the response meant the company – based at the town’s Attic Theatre – would be secure for a further two months.
A comment on the fund-raising page said: “We are completely overwhelmed at your support – we won’t lie, quite a few tears of happiness have been shed over here.
“Your support means that we are now secure for almost two months. Wow. We can’t thank you enough for that. You’ve made that happen, all you wonderful people!
“Please do continue to share and encourage people to give and in return we will come back with the best season ever to keep you entertained, and make sure our shows are as accessible as possible!
“We are also looking into the different ways we can keep fringe theatre alive, albeit in a virtual way, while our doors are closed. So please look out on our social media where we will be sharing more information in the next few weeks.”
