A POLICE operation in South Warwickshire is targeting drivers filling regular vehicles with red diesel meant for farm and construction machinery.
The Warwickshire Rural Crime Team has stopped one driver so far using the illicit fuel which is restricted for use to tractors and diggers.
It is around 50p cheaper than a litre of normal diesel and HM Revenue and Customs estimates the crime costs the UK £100million a year in lost tax revenue.
PC Craig Purcell described the fuel similar to the colour of ‘Tizer’.
He added the driver had been charged.
