Baa humbug say residents to sheep shed plans

Stratford Editorial 20th Jan, 2020   0

CONCERNS have been raised over plans in Lower Quinton for an ‘unsightly’ livestock shed to allow a farm to expand its sheep flock.

Applicant Deerfield Farm Services has submitted altered plans for a shed on Deerfield Farm – which falls within an area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB) – in order to increase its flock from 500 to 14,00.

The application follows a previous submission which was withdrawn. The latest shed design is smaller in answer to concerns around the site’s surroundings.

But residents are still unhappy calling the building ‘unsightly’ and ‘a blot on the landscape’.

They are also concerned over the welfare of a bigger flock of sheep arguing there was ‘little to no grass’.

But the applicant has argued the shed was necessary for the growing flock and the new design was ‘sympathetic’ to the area and would not detract from the AONB.

Planning committee members acknowledged the welfare concerns though said they were not relevant in the context of planning.

The application is set to be discussed at a planning meeting on Wednesday (January 22).
