Heavy rain brings floods across Stratford

Stratford Editorial 11th Nov, 2019 Updated: 11th Nov, 2019   0

HEAVY rain has yet again caused flooding across Stratford.

Wet weather over the weekend drove up river levels in Stratford district, prompting severe flood warnings in Walton, Welford Shipston and Tredington where levels peaked though remained steady. An alert is still in place for the River Deane in Walton and the Avon between Rugby and Bidford.

In Stratford, racecourse bosses were forced to abandon the season’s last event today (Monday) due to the course being severely waterlogged. While in the town centre, benches, trees, fences and signs and were submerged.

And a monitoring camera captured the River Stour climbing towards the top of Shipston Bridge and submerging a car park. Its current level remains above average at 1.5 metres.

More rain is expected tomorrow (Tuesday).
