License suspended temporarily at Stratford's remaining nightclub

Stratford Editorial 22nd Aug, 2019 Updated: 23rd Aug, 2019   0

STRATFORD’S only nightclub will be closed temporarily say licensing chiefs.

Issues over violence, drugs and noise prompted Stratford District Council to review the licence of Shakespeare Street Cocktail Bar & Night Club in Birmingham Road.

Councillors met on Tuesday and published a notice of decision today.

The club will close for six weeks during which the owner Earl Withers must make improvements to the venue.

Mr Withers who previously told the Observer, he had already replaced the door team following violence concerns and regularly checked toilets for drug use, has been urged to take  steps particularly to address noise complaints.

They include keeping all doors closed, except when people arrive and leave, staff training, and to maintain an acoustic lobby – a small space separating two doors – at all times.

Its late night opening hours will also be reduced from 2am to 1am  from Thursday to Saturday.
