Story of Victorian entertainer Dan Leno steps up to the stage in Stratford

Stratford Editorial 19th May, 2019   0

THE STORY of Victorian entertainer and champion clog dancer Dan Leno is stepping up to the stage at Stratford Playhouse.

The play, starring Steve Royle as the pantomime star thought to have inspired Charlie Chaplin, is on Saturday (May 25) at 7.30pm, with a 3.30pm matinee the following day.

Leno fans included King Edward VII and other royals, and he was particularly known for his dame roles.

Playwright David Slattery-Christy said: “Dan Leno’s story is funny and sad in equal measure and the play also includes some classic music-hall songs of the period.”
