Lamps recalled amid electric shock warning

Stratford Editorial 7th May, 2019   0

DANGEROUS lamps sold at Stratford market have prompted a warning from trading standards officers.

Swan neck table lamps, sold by Warwickshire trader Istanbul Bazaar last year, have been recalled after officers found wires were unsafe and carried a risk of electric shock.

They discovered the lamps had not been earthed and cord wires twisted with insulation tape, among other defects.

Trading standards said the lamps – none of which carried the manufacturer details or a type, batch or serial number – posed a serious risk of electric shock, as well as overheating and fires.

Trading standards spokesman spokesman Scott Tompkins said: “Warwickshire Trading Standards carries out regular checks on the safety of consumer products to help ensure that unsafe products are not sold and where they are found they are quickly removed from sale.

“These lamps were found to fail the electrical safety standards and have since been removed from supply and a recall instituted.”

Officers have warned those who have bought a swan neck lamp from the trader – located in The Minories shopping courtyard – to stop using it and to contact the seller for an exchange or refund.
