CLIMATE campaigners in Stratford are urging council chiefs to support the fight against global warning.
Stratford Climate Action will be launching a petition asking Stratford District Council to support a declaration of climate emergency.
Some 50 councils have committed to the declaration which aims to achieve carbon neutrality – when emissions are balanced out by measures to counteract them – by 2030.
The group will launch the petition at a ‘Youth Strike 4 Climate’ event on Friday (April 12). School pupils plan to march around the town in solidarity with fellow strikers across the country.
The organisation is also challenging candidates standing in the May local elections to support the declaration.
Members are asking prospective councillors what they would like to see in an emergency plan for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in Stratford district.
The group will publish responses on its website.

A campaign meeting will take place at Stratford Methodist Church, this evening (Wednesday) at 7pm. Anyone interested is welcome to attend.
