BABY photos are needed for Stratford’s ultimate baby book.
Health and wellbeing charity Escape Arts is staging a new exhibition ‘Call the Midwife’, named after the hit BBC series, focused on birth and babies.
It explores the history of maternity services and celebrates local stories from the late Victorian era to the present day.
Grittier stories include the unmarried mothers’ hospital – where their newborns were taken from them – to the children’s isolation hospital off the Birmingham Road.
And the charity, based at The Old Slaughterhouse heritage centre off Sheep Street, is asking for copies of residents’ baby photos to feature in Stratford’s ultimate baby book – particularly those born in the Monroe Devis Maternity Hospital in Tiddington.
A program of events include ‘Meet the Midwife’ talks, and an ‘Ooh Matron’ naughty postcard display.
The exhibition can be seen on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 1.30pm to 4.30pm until May.
