Safety fears prompt tree removal

Stratford Editorial 9th Dec, 2018   0

TREES are being cut down on Bancroft Gardens in Stratford over safety fears.

A survey has identified two common lime trees near to the fountain as a safety risk and they are set to come down on Monday (December 10).

The work is expected to take two to three days, weather permitting. The footpath nearest the trees will be closed for the duration of the works with a diversion route in place.

Two similar semi-mature trees will be planted in their place.

Community spokesman Coun Mike Brain said: “The district council regularly carry out inspections on all trees on council owned land to monitor their health. Ongoing works have found significant decay in both these trees and sadly the only course of action is to remove them. However, the trees will be immediately replaced with semi-mature trees in the same location.”
