Stepping out in a bid to find dementia cure

FAMILIES and friends of dementia sufferers have stepped out in a bid to find a cure.

More than 1,500 people took part in Alzheimer Society’s memory walk in Victoria Park, raising £200,000 for the charity.

The money will fund research and support those affected by the disease – which is the biggest killer in the UK, with someone developing the illness every three minutes.

The walk was opened by Warwick and Leamington MP Matt Western and resident Shaun Reynolds, whose mum passed away from the disease eight years ago.

Mr Western said: “A lot of people know someone affected by dementia and the money raised here today is used to support those people and their carers and family members as well as funding research.

“I’d also like to thank all of the wonderful Alzheimer’s Society volunteers who have been amazing and without who none of this would have been possible. If you’re thinking about getting involved with your nearest memory walk then please do sign up and come along. It’s a very moving day but also very enjoyable.”
