IT was heavy going for the ploughs at Wootton Wawen.
Rain made life hard going for competitors looking to plough the best plot at the 70th Ploughing and Hedging Match at Pools Barn Farm.
The Forest of Arden Agricultural Society-organised event also gave spectators the chance to learn more about the art and craft of ploughing.
The day also saw a hedge layers go head to head, together with village competitions, including produce, flowers, cookery, preserves, and handicrafts.
Plough match secretary Sue Westmacott said she was delighted to see so many people of different ages take part.
She said: ‘It’s marvellous to see that younger generations are continuing to get involved and to think our wonderful event is set to continue for another 70 years.
“The weather was against us again this year, but we still had many hundreds of visitors come along to support us.
“It is very easy to forget where our food comes from when shopping in big supermarkets. We should perhaps reflect that it is the men and women who plough and cultivate the land who take the very first step in its production.”
