Corn dollies helping fight against cancer in Stratford-on-Avon

Stratford Editorial 8th Aug, 2018   0

CORN dollies are playing their part in raising funds for Cancer Research in Stratford.

Welford councillor Peter Barnes has raised thousands for the Warwickshire Air Ambulance in recent years making the dollies, but this year is making them to support cancer patients after his wife Stella was diagnosed with lung cancer.

The independent councillor has crafted the traditional dolls for some 50 years, originally using his own crop from his farm in Moreton Morrell.

The dolls come with different coloured ribbons to represent types of cancer including blue for organ, red for blood and yellow for skin.

And Coun Barnes has donated some of the dolls to the Cancer Research shop in Wood Street where they can be bought for £10 each.
