RESIDENTS are mostly happy with life in Stratford district.
A report to council chiefs showed 93 per cent of the citizens were satisfied with the district as a place to live.
Stratford District Council’s Corporate Strategy is geared towards making the district a better place to live and work, and an action plan drawn up looked at performance across 32 specific targets.
Successful targets included working with partners, including Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership (CWLEP) and the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), to support the district economy; securing a government grant for £13.4million to support the development of the Garden Village in Long Marston; and remaining one of the top 10 best performing authorities in the UK for recycling.
Other successes included the upgrading CCTV across the district and funding for two rural crime co-ordinator posts to help rural residents feel safer.
Progress has also been made on sharing services with other councils, and improving access to local services in more remote areas.
But there were also a handful of areas where targets had not been hit, including development of the broadband infrastructure, and a review of leisure provision across the district.
Deputy council leader Mark Cargill said: “This very positive end of year monitoring report demonstrates the district council is delivering on our Corporate Strategy focusing on what really matters to residents, businesses and partners; to make the district a great place to live and work.
“Our surveys show in the last 12 months that there is high satisfaction with the way the district council operates and believe that we provide value for money.
“Significant strides have been made in the delivery of our Corporate Strategy for our community and we are now looking to develop our new Corporate Strategy starting in 2019.”
