Charity goes shabby chic

Stratford Editorial 29th Mar, 2018   0

SHABBY chic is the order of the day at Stratford-based ILEAP.

The charity (Inclusive Leisure Education Activities Project) gives opportunities to disabled children and adults with a mild or moderate learning disability to take part in the same activities as their non-disabled peers.

It was recently awarded £6,000 from the WPH Charitable Trust which is being used to fund sessions creating shabby chic items to sell at local markets in the south of the county and at ILEAP’s own shop in Kenilworth.

ILEAP chief executive Peter BAzeley said their were plans to open an online shop and to hold a regular market in Kenilworth and Stratford during the summer months.

He added the sessions were just one way of helping the charity achieve its primary aim of raising awareness of disability in the local community, and helping to facilitate social change.

Established in 2001 to provide safe opportunities for disabled children, ILEAP has continued to grow and develop, and today members range in age from seven to 72.

Anyone wanting to join ILEAP or for further information should visit www.ileap.co.uk, search Facebook page www.facebook.com/ileapcharity, or call 01789 260644.
