A LOO trip at the Old Slaughterhouse Heritage and Arts Centre in Stratford is no bog standard experience.
Escape Arts’ latest exhibition located in the bathroom at the centre on Sheep Street lifts the lid on the history of local latrines.
And from making toilet paper and potty protests to vintage sanitary wear and advertisements, there is a lot to uncover.
The former owner of historic toilet company Thomas Crapper & Co Simon Kirby from Stratford, helped open the exhibition.
He bought the firm – originally London-based – in 1999 and it continues to operate from Alscot park in Stratford selling vintage bathrooms and accessories.
Artistic director Karen Williams said: “Who would have thought Stratford’s loos would have stirred up such interest.
“It’s great fun and raises a smile to visitors, although the queue for the loo has increased.”
The permanent exhibition and can be viewed during regular hours on Thursday 1pm to 4pm, and Fridays and Saturdays from 11am to 4pm.
