A WOMAN and a toddler have been killed in a crash between lorry and car near Rugby.

Warwickshire Police said the two passengers – a 31-year-old woman and a two-year-old boy – were travelling in a blue Nissan Qashqai when the horror smash happened on the A426 at junction 1 of the M6 around 10.30pm on Saturday night.

The Nissan driver – a 35-year-old man, and a six-year-old girl also in the car – were taken to hospital with injuries which were not thought to be serious.

Police, firefighters and medics all attended the scene.

Insp Andrew Bennett said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the families of the deceased at this time. Despite the attempts of other drivers and paramedics, the woman and boy were declared dead at the scene.

“I would urge anyone who witnessed the collision or saw either of the vehicles involved in the moments leading up to the incident to contact us.”
