PLUGGED-IN youngsters across Warwickshire are embracing a digital future.
King Edward VI School in Stratford hosted the launch of the Digital Schoolhouse programme which is designed to help pupils prepare for a future world ever-more reliant on technology.
Pupils and staff from eight schools including from Moreton Morrell, KES, Kineton High and The Willows, came together to enjoy a range of activities from learning about algorithms through coming up with their own dance sequences, to programming robots using code.
The programme – powered by PlayStation and sponsored by SEGA and Warwickshire County Council – uses play-based learning to engage pupils and teachers with the latest technology.
Digital Schoolhouse spokesperson Laura Martin said: “The future is digital, who knows what jobs are going to exist.
“The programme is designed to help them gain all the skills they need to thrive and play is key to doing this. We use ‘unplugged’ activities which introduces them to concepts through play in a number of ways – using play dough, dance and every day objects.”
County council leader Coun Izzi Seccombe added through its support, the authority aimed to harness young people’s entrepreneurial drive and equip them with specific digital skills that are increasingly sought after by employers.
And the children all agreed the activities would play an important part in their futures and for some, their dream careers from engineering and medicine, to working for NASA and inventing teleportation.
