Eco-conscious youngsters do their bit for environment

Stratford Editorial 10th Feb, 2018   0

ENVIRONMENTALLY-CONSCIOUS youngsters have been doing their bit for the future of the planet.

Pupils at Wootton Wawen Primary School were invited to plant the first trees at an affordable housing development project in the village.

Warwickshire Rural Housing Association (WRHA) is working with Waterloo Housing Group and Bouygues UK on the 14 energy efficient homes.

And pupils Aurelia, Will, Francesca, Tilly, Emma and Billy – who are studying an environmental topic entitled ‘Who Cares?’ – set to work to create a natural woodland screen at the new development.

Many species of trees were planted including wild cherry, hawthorn, ash, field maple and silver birch, to form a huge woodland area which will include a woodland trail.

All the surface water from the new development will drain into the woodland to keep the trees watered all year round.

WRHA spokesman Neil Gilliver said: “The new development at Wootton Wawen has been community led from the outset and we are delighted that local children are helping to plant the trees which will be enjoyed by generations to come.

“This is a ground-breaking project which is bringing the whole community together to help reduce our carbon footprint and cut fuel poverty.”
