BAGS of help have been sent across the world to a Syrian refugee camp by a south Warwickshire charity.
Compassion Direct UK (CDUK) sent around 60 bags of aid and several large boxes of hand knitting donated by generous people in and around Kineton.
Supporters included members of ‘Knit n’ Natter’ which make mittens, hats, scarves, jumpers and blankets for the charity’s ‘Knit for Kids’ project.
And one member – Doreen – made over 100 jumpers to be sent to the camp.
CDUK work together with Aid Convoy to send useful household items including toiletries, clothing, blankets, sleeping bags, tents and educational toys twice a year to impoverished and war-torn communities.
And the charity holds a bring and buy sale each year to help to cover the costs of transportation.
Chairman Ros Grant said: “This year’s sale raised over £300 and all from recycled and unwanted goods.
“With so many things going on in the world today it is easy to forget the ongoing plight of refugees in the freezing winters of Syria and other war torn countries.
“This is the eighth load we have sent to various areas such as Ukraine, Greece, Lebanon and Syria and it is the least we can do to help.
“This load will go to an established camp where they are setting up schools for the children so we were pleased to be able to send several sacks of educational toys.”
