SAFETY comes first for a Stratford youngster who has scooped a prize for her impressive poetry.
Warwickshire County Council’s Trading Standards and Fire and Rescue Service hold an annual safety poem competition to help warn children about the dangers of fireworks.
And Sophie Roberts, a pupil at St Gregory’s Catholic Primary School in Stratford, scooped first place.
Council spokesman for community safety, coun Howard Roberts said: “I’m delighted so many Warwickshire school children entered this year’s competition. The poems and posters have been very imaginative and I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate our winners and thank everyone for taking part.
“Many children love to watch fireworks, but it’s important that they are kept safe. We seek to keep children safe by helping to ensure that fireworks are stored safely, are not sold to young people and that children are protected when they attend firework events.”
Sophie won a book token and a visit to a fire station. Her poem will also be used as part of next year’s fire safety campaign.
