Warwickshire rising star takes home two awards

SINGER-SONGWRITER Izzie Derry is one of Warwickshire shining stars after taking home two awards in as many months.

The 18 year-old music performance student at Warwickshire College won the ‘Young Achiever of the Year’ award at Touch FM’s Pride of Warwick District awards, as well as the ‘Student of the Year’ award at Leamington College.

Izzie, who takes inspiration from the likes of Nick Drake, Neil Young and Johnny Cash, released her debut album ‘Goodbye’ in May. She has also played a string of live shows, including supporting Olly Murs, Courtney Marie Andrews and Hannah Trigwell.

The Coventry teenager’s music has been described as ‘modern folk pop’, with a sound compared to Joni Mitchell and The Cranberries.

Warwickshire College tutor Louise Clayton-Vance, who nominated Izzie for the Pride of Warwick District award, said: “She is one of the most supportive, caring and hard-working students we have had the pleasure of teaching.

“She’s achieved her success through her own hard work and ambition, but she’s also on a personal mission to support and motivate others. She continues to spread a message of love, positivity and hope.”
