Alcester introduces free wifi in the town centre

Stratford Editorial 26th May, 2017   0

NEVER be without the web again.

Alcester has taken a step towards the digital frontier by introducing free wifi in the town centre.

Recognising the change in the way consumers use the high street, the free internet service will allow visitors to browse the shops – and the web – at the same time.

Rachel Baconnet from Warwickshire County Council, explained: “The way people shop, visit and socialise in town centres has changed dramatically over the past few years. More and more people rely on smartphones for readily available information about offers, events, and places to eat.

“We’re really pleased to see Alcester fly the digital flag and promote the town as a fantastic place to visit.”

Alcester is now firmly on the digital map, posting news and events from @visitaclester on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, and exploring plans for a new town website.

Sarah Basset, chairman of Alcester Trade and Commerce added: “By embracing the concept of a digital high street, we can encourage consumers to spend longer in the town, and make Alcester a more vibrant and economically viable destination.”
