Youngster's fire safety poem is a winner

Stratford Editorial 5th Dec, 2016   0

SAFETY-CONSCIOUS Alice Shapiro is celebrating after winning the South Warwickshire Firework Safety Poem Competition.

Warwickshire County Council’s Trading Standards and fire service organise the annual competition to help warn children about the dangers of fireworks.

Children are asked to design a poster or write a poem that will help warn children and young people about the dangers of fireworks.

And the eight year-old Tudor Grange Primary pupil’s winning verse won her a £25 book token and a visit to a fire station.

Alice’s poem:

Fireworks explode as they rain from the sky

I advise your parents to watch and keep an eye

Read the instructions on the box

Everyone hear distant pops

Wear your gloves to protect you from the flame

Otherwise you could feel excruciating pain

Remember remember the fifth of November, gunpowder treason and plot

King of the bonfire – Guy Fawkes, the man we never forgot!
