THE SHAKESPEARE Birthplace Trust is welcoming people to join them for the annual Heritage Open Days weekend.

A pop-up exhibition about all things horticultural, including gardening objects and artefacts from the trust’s collection, will be open to all, and free of charge, at The Shakespeare Centre on Henley Street on September 10 and 11.

People can discover more about the plants and gardens in Shakespeare’s time and meet members of the collections team and see early printed herbals and gardening books, historic photos, theatre archives and more from 10am to 4pm.

Youngsters can also design their own Tudor knot garden, snap a photo dressed up as a Tudor gardener, make a lavender bag or learn how to use the Tudor ‘tinkler’.

And head of gardens, Glyn Jones, will also be on hand for special talks about the gardens of Shakespeare’s family homes at 11.30am and 3pm each day.

Harvard House on High Street, which was built by Thomas Rogers and has connections to Harvard University in America, will also be offering free entry to visitors over the weekend.

The national Heritage Open Day programme offers free access to places usually closed to the public, or which usually charge for admission.
