CELEBRATIONS for the Queen’s 90th birthday in the district weren’t dampened by the great British weather.

The Friends of Rowley Fields held a ‘bring your own picnic’ party. People flocked to enjoy tunes from a fairground organ while they ate their royal picnics to mark Her majesty’s landmark birthday.

Residents at the Swan Court retirement complex also enjoyed a right royal spread including sandwiches, trifle and cakes.

A donation from the Stratford Town Trust towards the cost of the party meant over 40 people were able to celebrate.

The town trust also supported a party in Alveston and Mencap’s celebrations of the Queen’s birthday.

Alveston Villagers Association was granted £400 for their patriotic party on the village green.

And Heart of England Mencap were awarded £200 to support their party at Stratford Cricket Club which featured entertainment from a jester, games and tea and cakes.

Alcester marked the occasion with a church service lead by Rev Adrian Guthrie. Clergy from the town’s churches, mayor Chris Brannigan, Stratford District Council chairman Susan Adams, representatives of the Royal British Legion and the Marquis of Hertford.

And Alcester Alauna Rotary Club were awarded the accolade of ‘best stall’ at the town’s birthday celebrations.
