COUPLES will soon be able to get married next to Shakespeare’s Birthplace.
Stratford Registry Office – which is currently based at Winton House in Church Street – is moving to Stratford Library on Henley Street next spring.
The move includes plans to create two self-contained offices for birth and death registrations and the ‘Henley Room’ which will be used for marriages for up to 35 guests. It will also have a separate entrance to the library.
Superintendent registrar Diane Lampard said: “We are very excited by the move which will offer couples wanting to get married in Stratford a landmark location next door to Shakespeare’s Birthplace.
“The history, prominence and desirability of this location, will improve our registration offer to people.”
Library services will face some disruption from mid-September when work will start on the ground floor of the library and from October a pop up library will be available within the building.
The town will be without access to the library for a short time in early December while final works take place.
