A SAFETY-CONSCIOUS youngster has proved a real bright spark.

Fire and trading standards chiefs in Warwickshire organised the annual  Stratford Firework Safety Competition calling on schoolchildren to create a poster design or write a poem about staying safe around fireworks.

And six year-old Alveston Primary School pupil, Cooper Cullimore won first prize for his poster design which will be used as part of the firework safety campaign in November. He also received a £10 book token and a visit to a fire station.

Coun John Horner, spokesman for safety said: “The firework safety message is very important and I’m delighted to say that we’ve had a great response to our competition this year, with over 1,000 children taking part.

Around half of all firework injuries happen to children under the age of 16.
