Shakespeare tour guide to take on Gorilla Run

Stratford Editorial 30th Aug, 2015 Updated: 28th Oct, 2016   0

THERE may not be any gorillas in the canon, but there will be a Shakespeare in a gorilla suit next month.

Ellis Creez, who works as Shakespeare giving tours of Stratford, will be swapping his ruff for the gorilla costume when he joins hundreds of runners from across the world for the eight kilometre Great Gorilla Run in London on September 19.

Ellis is aiming to raise £400 for the Gorilla’s Organisation, which will be used to help a range of conservation and education projects in central Africa.

He said:  “I’ve always loved animals and the dear old mountain gorillas have been losing their habitat to the extent that there are less than a thousand in existence throughout the world.

“It’s a serious situation but this run is a fun way to help.

“I’m used to wearing silly costumes in shows and things but my practice runs in the gorilla suit have been particularly sweaty affairs.

“People have been very generous with donations and support for the run – I just hope I don’t evaporate beforehand.”

The run is now in its 12th year and is supported by conservationist Bill Oddie.
