LOXLEY residents have rallied together to help raise £5,000 for a friend.

Wilf Ayres suffered a stroke earlier this year which left him with limited mobility on his left side.

Friends and family hosted the ‘Wilf’ Run on July 25, raising funds to help him regain some independence.

The three mile race was completed on horseback, bikes, in wheelchairs, on crutches, running, walking and with one pair even dressed as a man and his dog.

The 61-year-old has been a vital part of the community and helped support the primary school from closure.

Before being taken ill, he enjoyed driving his VW and the money raised will be used to modify this so Wilf can once again cruise in his pride and joy.

Wilf said: “It’s so very touching that so many people have given so generously of their time and money, I will always remember this day.”
