CRICKET - Exhall and Wixford post club-record score in latest victory

EXHALL and Wixford CC posted a club-record score in a resounding 188-run victory against Ashorne and Moreton Morrell.

The Alcester-based club posted 398-4 from their 45 overs at the John Canning Cricket Ground to set a new club record.

And William Green and Robert Perry produced a stunning 212-run fourth-wicket partnership as Exhall cruised to victory.

The result means Exhall remain top of the Cotswold Hills League First Division table.

Exhall won the toss and elected to bat as openers Craig Atherton (55) and Julian Morris (39) put on 85 runs for the first wixket.

Ashorne’s Sandeep Singh (3-76) removed both openers while Alexander Brown (22) added useful runs before he fell to Akash Patil (1-60).




Brown’s departure brought Green (167 not out) and Perry (66) together at the crease as the pair combined for a record-breaking partnership.

Green remained unbeaten in the middle as he quickly reached and passed a century in an 80-ball innings which featured 18 fours and 11 maximums.


Perry reached a half-century in a 48-ball knock before Singh eventually broke up the partnership as Exhall closed on a club-record 398-4.

Exhall’s Joe Park (4-36) made an early inroads with the ball as he removed Ashorne openers Anmay Shedge (5) and Andy Horley (16).

Thomas Cox (98) and James Cutts (29) combined for a strong third-wicket stand before Green (3-20) made the breakthrough,

And Green quickly removed Ben Freeman (5) and Callum Rorke (0) for a nine-ball duck as Ashorne slipped to 148-5.

Park returned to remove Singh (29) while Charlie Masters (2-25) eventually removed Cox with the latter just two runs shy of a century.

Ashorne’s innings unravelled following Cox’s departure as Exhall quickly accounted for the away side’s tail order batters to seal a 188-run win.

Exhall 1sts are next in action against Kineton 2nds on Saturday, July 18 with play to begin at 12.30pm at the John Canning Cricket Ground.

Elsewhere, Exhall’s 2nd XI claimed a dominant nine-wicket win at Fladbury 2nds at the Recreation Ground thanks to an unbeaten century from Simon Hollands.

Fladbury won the toss and elected to bat only to lose opener Joseph Essex (1) cheaply to the bowling of Jonathan Simpson (1-13).

Simon Purfield (57) made a half-century for the hosts while Chris Fincher (34) also added useful runs before Khurram Mirza (1-34) broke up the partnership.

Jason Brown (3-29) then bowled William Wade (6) and also accounted for opener Purfield to take a crucial scalp.

Fladbury lost their final five wickets for the addition of just 30 runs as the home side slumped from 134-5 to 164 all out in 37 overs as Tom Alder (2-12) and Stefan Troye (1-37) chipped in with wickets.

Exhall made light work of the reply as opener Hollands (106 not out) and Scott Carmichael (29) put on 79 runs for the first wicket.

Hollands smashed his way to a century with 15 fours and two sixes while Mirza (17 not out) helped guide Exhall to victory in 20.3 overs for the loss of a single wicket.

The result means Exhall 2nds sit top of the Cotswold Hills League Division Five West table.

Exhall 2nds are next in action against Elmley Castle 2nds on Saturday, July 18 with play to begin at 1pm at Kersoe Lane.
