Stratford District Council confirm rise of council tax by 42p a month

SUPPORTING the most vulnerable residents is a priority as Stratford District Council raises its share of the council tax by an average of 42p per month.

Councillors set the district element of the council tax at a meeting of the council on Monday (February 23).

The amount residents will be asked to pay for a Band D property is £174.17 in 2026/27, an increase of £5.

This is an increase of 2.99 per cent, which for an average home represents an additional 42p per month to SDC next year.

This contributes to meeting the cost of providing a wide range of services including recycling and waste collection, planning, street cleaning, housing, housing benefits, leisure services and children’s play areas.

SDC receives 7.1 per cent of the council tax paid by residents. Warwickshire County Council receives the lion’s share of 76.6 per cent, the Police 12.8 per cent and towns and parishes 3.5 per cent.

SDC’s resources spokesperson Coun David Curtis said: “This budget balances the need to be financially responsible, while protecting and improving vital services for our residents. It offers support for residents across our district; to our most vulnerable and the elderly, for our rural communities, town centres and business community, to young families and the protection of our environment for future generations.”

SDC leader Coun Susan Juned added: “Despite financial pressures, the council has been able to continue to deliver vital services such as economic development, leisure facilities, environmental improvements and waste collections while also delivering improved rural crime prevention and continued assistance to residents who are still facing cost-of-living pressures.”
