Stratford Leisure Centre is looking greener

STRATFORD Leisure Centre is looking greener.

A major solar panel installation project is nearing completion at the key community facility, marking a significant step towards improving its sustainability.

Around 400 solar panels are being installed on the roof thanks to a grant of £280,000 from Sport England’s Swimming Pool Support Fund.

The solar panels are expected to significantly decrease the leisure centre’s reliance on traditional energy sources, resulting in lower carbon emissions and substantial operational cost savings.

Stratford District Council has played a pivotal role in securing the funding and driving the project forward, working closely with Everyone Active, who manage the district council’s leisure centres, and Leisure Energy Limited, who are installing the solar panels.

The work is due to be fully completed in March.

SDC leader Coun Susan Juned said: “Standing on the roof and seeing these panels in place is a real highlight. This project is a fantastic example of how we can work together to create a more sustainable future, reducing carbon emissions and ensuring the long-term viability of community facilities like Stratford Leisure Centre.”

Everyone Active’s contract manager Richard Bell added: “Seeing these panels being installed is a real testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved. This project marks a significant step in reducing the centre’s carbon footprint and we’re proud to be working alongside Stratford District Council as part of our Carbon Reduction Strategy.”

Sport England administered the Swimming Pool Support Fund on behalf of the government. The fund aims to support swimming pools and leisure centres in becoming more sustainable.
