First circuit win for Stratford's in-form Alex Burden

STRATFORD Cycling Club’s Alex Burden turned on the style to win his first under tens circuit race at Mallory Park.

This was one in a series of evening races which will produce an overall winner at the end and after three races Burden is in second place overall.

A week earlier in the West Midlands Youth Circuit event at Stourport, Burden had to settle for fifth place, but he has learned by watching his more experienced colleagues as Spencer Corder finished second and Lewis Tinsley third.

Other Stratford riders included Joseph Gregg (12th), Joe Chandler (13th) and Samuel Abbott (17th). Harriet Tinsley had another good ride as she finished fifth in the girls’ race.

In the under 14s race Baden Green had probably his best race to date in finishing 15th. On paper the result may not look that impressive but, having missed the vital break, he rode with a new determination and did everything he could to close the gap, but the group ahead were just as determined.

He was followed home by newcomer Isaac Wilkinson who finished 22nd in his first race and looks like a great find for the club. Tom Charles followed him home in 23rd place and Connor Murphy was 24th in his first race of the season.

Jess O’Reilly finished fourth in the girls’ race and seems to be getting better with every outing.

These same young people never give up and followed the above races with an event at Lichfield where the ever-improving Ben Snodgrass was seventh in the under 16s race and Green eighth in the under 14s event.

Then it was back to the under tens again in which Corder recorded another win followed by Burden who was second.
