Stratford key worker homes could 'serve as blueprint' for UK

THE PROJECT to create homes for some of the district’s key workers, from nurses to teachers, could serve as a blueprint for the rest of the  country.

That was the view of Stratford MP Nadhim Zahawi when he visited Fordham House – a new housing scheme by Orbit in partnership with Deeley Construction, ABD Developments and Stratford Town Trust.

It is being built at the site of the former Warwick House office building on the corner of Birmingham Road and Clopton Road.

Located close to Stratford Hospital and the town centre, the 82 one-and two-bedroom flates will be initially marketed to key workers employed in public services.

It is hoped the partnership will allow those such as teachers and NHS staff to privately rent in the town at a reasonable price.

And Mr Zahawi was quick to pay tribute to the work that has gone into the project so far.

He said: “I believe this is the blueprint for development when it comes to creating homes for those key workers who can’t, ordinarily, get themselves onto the housing ladder.

“A great deal of foresight has been shown by the partners who are bringing forward Fordham House and I wish them every success.

“Stratford is not alone in needing to provide more homes and this type of scheme is exactly what we need and I can see this type of development being rolled out across the country.”

Peter Deeley, of Deeley Construction and ABD Developments, confirmed work was progressing well on site.

He said: “We are very grateful to Nadhim for coming along to Fordham House to see the development taking shape.

“Everything is progressing on programme and we do feel this partnership style of working benefits everyone involved and will deliver a crucial scheme for the town.”

And Paul High, Orbit’s executive director of property investment, added: “With it being so close to the hospital, schools, and the centre of town, Fordham House is in a prime location for people working in Stratford.

“We’re committed to providing a range of high-quality housing, and having already seen strong interest in the new homes, Fordham House will be an aspirational place to live in the heart of the town.”

The project is scheduled for completion next summer.
