DRAGONS took to the Avon in Stratford in aid of the Shakespeare Hospice on September 20.
The weather stayed dry as 21 teams from local companies and organisations paddled furiously in a bid to be crowned dragon boat champions.
In a very close final race the Rivers Monsters – a team from Rivers Fitness in Evesham – stormed to victory with Western Power Distribution taking silver and FPS Distribution in bronze.
Each team beat their best times of the day with less than a second separating them as they crossed the line in a photo finish.
Shakespeare Hospice fundraiser, Tal Williams declared the event a great success and said: “It was a brilliant day, the atmosphere was fantastic and the teams really gave their all in the races. Thank you to everyone for their support and hard work fundraising and training for the day!”
Tal also thanked the Dragon Boat Race event sponsor, Western Power Distribution.
The event generated over £20,000 for The Shakespeare Hospice which provides care to patients affected by a life limiting illness and those who matter to them.
