THE RUGBY World Cup got a rousing Shakespearean welcome when it came to Stratford today.
The trophy stopped off as part of a nation-wide tour ahead of the tournament which starts next month.
And if England needed a pre-tournament speech to inspire them, RSC actor Alex Hassall was on hand with some stirringly patriotic words from Henry V, a role he will soon be playing on the RST stage.
And there was also a chance to enjoy some competitive action as Stratford Colts took to the Bancroft Gardens to for some
touch/tag demonstrations.
Matt Smith, South Warwickshire Rugby Football Union, said: “We are proud to host the world-famous Webb Ellis Cup in Stratford.
“Warwickshire has been buzzing with activity with the arrival of the Trophy as part of the nationwide celebration of Rugby and we are all counting down with excitement to Rugby World Cup 2015.”
The day will close with the South Warwickshire Summer Touch Rugby Finals from 6pm on the Recreation Ground with a live rock band in the bandstand.
