Overturned lorry on M40 causing traffic delays

AN OVERTURNED lorry is causing long delays on the M40.

Two lanes of the northbound carriageway between Henley (junction 16) towards the M42 (junction 3a) are blocked by the vehicle and traffic is backing up to Longbridge Island for the A46.

Highways England are warning drivers to expect long delays on this route with five miles of tailbacks southbound and four miles northbound.

Three lorries were involved in the crash and one of the drivers was taken to hospital to be treated.

A West Midlands Ambulance service spokes person said: “One of the lorries had collided with a bridge support and was on its side. Its driver, a man in his thirties had leg pain. He was taken to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.

“One of the other lorry drivers had back pain but he refused hospital treatment. The third lorry driver was uninjured.”

Delays are expected on both the M40 and the M42 for the rest of the afternoon.
