New Stratford business hoping to taste success

ORGANIC, gluten free and paleo friendly – all buzzwords for the modern diet and all used by a new Stratford-based company.

Nuts In Ya Mouth was founded by chef Martyn Brook who wanted to create high quality snack bars, which were free from artificial flavourings, colouring and preservatives but also tasted good.

The nut roastery and company’s flagship shop opened in May on Henley Street, opposite the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust.

A range of breakfast cereals, known as Raw Granola Crunch, have also joined the brand – the products are paleo friendly, gluten free, organic, dehydrated, no added sugar, naturally sweetened, soya free and free from additives and preservatives.

The 50-year-old said: “I was stuck in traffic travelling from London one day so I decided to take a detour off the motorway instead.

“I really enjoy helping people in the shop and sharing what I know about food, and my experiences, with them.

“So many people fill their bodies with processed, rubbish food these days. It’s no wonder people feel tired and ill all the time – it’s because of what they’re eating!”

At the start of the new millennium Martyn was running a successful gastro-pub in Copenhagen when he was diagnosed with cancer – something he chalks down to living ‘excessively’.

He moved to Thailand to recover, changing his lifestyle and approach to food.

Martyn has cooked in kitchens around the world but noticed a gap in the market for vegan snacks which tasted good and were good for you.

He said: “So many companies jumped on the ‘vegan’ and ‘raw’ bandwagon and were making products which tasted of nothing. I’ve worked hard to create food which is good for you as well as being really tasty.

“I love being in the kitchen trying out new flavours and thinking up the next product.”
