STRATFORD Girls’ Grammar School has unveiled a new state-of-the-art addition to the school.

The £3.5million Hargreaves building includes a sports hall, fitness suite, changing rooms, dining hall, kitchen, a drama studio and offices.

Grants totalling £3million were topped up by a fund-raising effort which saw pupils past and present, staff and governors raise

£440,000 in the space of a term.

The school named the building after Alison Hargreaves – mountaineer whose achievements included scaling Everest alone in 1995 – in keeping with their theme of naming buildings after lesser-known inspirational women.

Headteacher Kate Barnett said: “It has been an incredible journey, and watching the school change over the months has been mesmerizing. Now that it is complete, it feels like it has always been here, completing the circle around the heart of the campus.”
