A 25-YEAR-OLD from Derbyshire died following a two vehicle smash in Shipston.

Emergency services including a rapid response vehicle from the Midlands Air Ambulance were called to Campden Road shortly before 6pm on December 23.

A Royal Mail lorry was travelling on the A429 towards Stratford while a Citroen C1 was driving along the B4035 away from Chipping Campden when the two vehicles collided at the Portobello crossroads.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “Crews were called to initial reports of a car and a lorry in collision.

“On arrival, crews found a car on a grass verge that had come to rest against a telegraph pole. The driver, a man, was treated at the scene for a serious head injury, while the passenger was treated for pelvic and head injuries.”

Both the driver and the passenger were then taken to University Hospital for further assessment and specialist treatment but the driver, Julios Catachanas, died the following day.

The driver of the lorry, who was uninjured, failed to stop at the scene but was later traced by police and attended a voluntary interview.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle beforehand is asked to contact Warwickshire Police on 101.
