Knitters mark methodist centenary in Wellesbourne

KNITTERS have been busy to mark the centenary of Wellesbourne’s Methodist Church.

Although there has been a Methodist presence in the village since 1827, the current chapel on Bridge Street was not built until 1916.

And to celebrate the occasion, women who regularly knit and chat at the chapel’s coffee mornings challenged themselves to knit 100 scarves.

The scarves were joined together and wrapped around parts of the village before being donated to Compassion UK – a Christian charity which works to improve the lives of impoverished children around the world.

Rev Dawn Saunders said: “These scarves are not the just the fruits of the ladies’ hard work and commitment to the challenge, they are knitted with love.

“We as a church want to share that love and all of our centenary celebrations with our local community.”
