Firefighters joined by family dog on cat rescue mission

FIREFIGHTERS have been joined by a family dog in the heroic rescue of a trapped cat.

Crews were called out on Sunday (May 15) to rescue Marlo the cat, who had become stuck underneath two fence panels on Manor Lane in Ettington.

Firefighters found it it difficult to reach the cat – who was very distressed – and had to use hand tools before lifting him to safety.

But the cat may not have been discovered if it had not been for Westly the dog, who found the trapped feline and alerted his owners.

A spokesman from Warwickshire Fire and Rescue said: “It may be a cliché but firefighters were called to rescue Marlo after he managed to get trapped between the joining of two large fence panels.

The real hero of the story was little Westly the dog, who found the trapped cat and alerted his owners. If Marlo hadn’t been found he would surely have died.

It also turns out Westly not only loves cats, but she took a shine to our firefighters too.”
