Families flock to Stratford for National Play Day

THE SUN shone on Stratford this week as families flocked to the Rec for National Play Day.

Despite the early clouds, the sun eventually broke through providing perfect conditions for a day of fun in the sun on Wednesday (August 5).

Those with a sense of adventure had the chance to go up in the world on a climbing wall, or find out if they had a hidden talent by trying their hand at circus skills.

And competition was fierce as youngsters battled it out at swingball, connect four, tennis, cricket and in sumo suits.

There was also a half pipe for the skaters while those who wanted to take it easy were able to enjoy a puppet show.

The free event – organised by Stratford District Council – was part of a national celebration aiming to highlight the importance of play in children’s lives.

Observer photographer Jon Mullis went along to capture some of the fun.
