A MAN has died after a two car crash near Claverdon.

It happened shortly after 7pm yesterday evening on the A4189 Henley to Warwick road near to the Crab Mill between Preston Bagot and Claverdon.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival, crews found two cars that had both suffered very significant front end damage.

“Sadly, there was nothing that could be done to save the driver of one car and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

“A man in his late 70s from the other car was trapped for a period.

“He had suffered possible fractures to his shoulder, wrist and ankle on the left side.

“After condition was stabilised at the scene, he was taken to the major trauma centre at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham by ambulance.

“There were two further patients from a third car that is believed to have struck one of the other cars already involved.

“There were a man and a woman in their 50s in the third vehicle.

“They were assessed, but were discharged at the scene.”

A rapid response vehicle was on scene within four minutes of the 999 call – quickly joined by a passing paramedic officer, two ambulances, a paramedic area support officer and a doctor.
